The Home Is the New Passport ๐Ÿ›‚๐Ÿก

By Peeved Pope John 35 (๐Ÿ‘ป๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Still Irish, Eternally Handsome)

My fellow Americans ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธโ€”

We believe passports ๐Ÿ›‚ make us citizens.

We believe flags ๐Ÿณ๏ธ, pledges ๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™‚๏ธ, and Social Security cards ๐Ÿงพ make us members of this great republic.

But let me tell you the hard truth ๐Ÿ’ฅ:

A passport gets you across borders ๐ŸŒโœˆ๏ธโ€ฆ

A deed ๐Ÿ“œ gets you across the wealth gap ๐Ÿ”๏ธ.

Without a deed, youโ€™re not a citizen of the asset class ๐Ÿ’ณ. Youโ€™re a tourist ๐Ÿ‘’ โ€” disposable, temporary, tolerated.

The Numbers ๐Ÿ”ข

๐Ÿ“Š Homeownership = Political Power ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ

  • Homeowners vote at higher rates than renters (by ~10โ€“15%).

  • Communities with high homeownership = more stable schools ๐Ÿซ, safer streets ๐Ÿš“, stronger representation ๐Ÿ’ผ.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Wealth Divide ๐Ÿ’ธ

  • Median homeowner net worth = $396,200.

  • Median renter = $10,400.

  • Thatโ€™s not a passport check โ€” thatโ€™s a border wall ๐Ÿงฑ.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Locked Out Generations ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐ŸŽ“

  • First-time homebuyers today make up the smallest share in decades ๐Ÿ“‰.

  • Meanwhile, corporate landlords ๐Ÿฆˆ scoop up homes by the thousands.

This isnโ€™t rentersโ€™ fault โŒ.

  • Wages fell behind housing costs ๐Ÿ’ตโฌ‡๏ธ.

  • Zoning blocked starter homes ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ .

  • Easy credit for Wall Street ๐Ÿ’ณ, impossible hoops for families.

We didnโ€™t choose exile ๐ŸŒ. We were pushed.

The Home as the New Passport ๐Ÿ›‚๐Ÿก

Think about it:

  • A passport lets you travel ๐Ÿ›ซ, but a deed lets you stay ๐Ÿก.

  • A passport proves identity ๐Ÿชช, but a deed proves permanence ๐Ÿ—๏ธ.

  • A passport expires โณ, but a deed (once paid) is forever โ™พ๏ธ.

No deed? Youโ€™re a guest on a month-to-month visa ๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ.

With a deed? Youโ€™re a citizen with permanent residency in Americaโ€™s future ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ.

Ask Notโ€ฆ ๐ŸŽค

So I say to you today:

Ask not what your landlord can do for you ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ โ€” ask why the deed is treated like a passport ๐Ÿ›‚ and locked away from the people ๐Ÿ—๏ธ.

Solutions exist ๐Ÿ’ก:

  • First-purchase rights for citizens before Wall Street ๐Ÿฆˆ.

  • Build affordable starter homes like we build cars ๐Ÿš—.

  • Simplify buying a house so itโ€™s as quick as buying a ticket ๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ.

Because until every citizen can hold a deed ๐Ÿ“œ, many of us will remain foreigners in our own land ๐ŸŒŽ.

The home is the new passport ๐Ÿ›‚๐Ÿก โ€” and citizenship is not real until we all have one.
